APPLYING COLLOCATIONS WITH “GET” AND “MAKE” IN DEVELOPING ENGLISH WRITING SKILLS
Abstract
Collocations play a vital role in achieving fluency and naturalness in English writing. However,
Vietnamese learners often struggle to use collocations appropriately, resulting in awkward or unnatural
expressions. This study aims to investigate the application of collocations with get and make in developing
writing skills among first-year non-accounting major students at the National Economics University
(NEU) in Hanoi, Vietnam. The research focuses on how instruction and practice with these specific
collocations can enhance students’ lexical awareness, syntactic flexibility, and overall writing proficiency.
The study concludes that integrating collocation-focused instruction into writing classes can effectively
enhance learners’ written competence and communicative confidence. Pedagogical implications and
recommendations for EFL teachers are discussed.
