EVALUATING THE CURRENT SITUATION OF TEACHING ENGLISH FOR THE FIRST YEAR STUDENTS AT THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY OF AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to evaluate the current situation of teaching English for the first-year students at Thai
Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry through the perspectives of lecturers and students. The research
method approach of the study was a descriptive method, and a questionnaire was used as the primary data
collection instrument. The participants were 100 first-year students in the 2020-2021 academic year and
eight English lecturers. The significant findings of the research showed that both students and lecturers of
Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry highly evaluated the current teaching program in five
main categories: organization of the program, teaching content, teaching methods, assessment, and teachinglearning
facilities.
The research
also indicated some
shortcomings that need
to
be addressed,
such as the
class
size,
the
unequal
students’
English
abilities,
and
the
internet
connection
to
improve
the
current
teaching

situation.

Through these findings, some implications and recommendations are promisingly suggested to
enhance the quality of education.
