Abstract: The use of video for teaching and learning is accelerating both in and outside the EFL classroom as it engages the senses and stimulates memory and emotion. While traditional textbooks often take a primarily linguistic approach to learning, video’s multiple modes can take a variety of approaches; therefore, video is a great source of motivation and a tool for language practice as well as developing learners’ autonomy for teachers and students in and outside the EFL classroom. This article will demonstrate the reasons for, advantages and challenges as well as some implications for using video for teachers and learners including criteria to select video, steps of using video, and some suggested activities using video in the classroom.
