Grammar and vocabulary are two key factors affecting four skills: listening – speaking – reading – writing in English. Grammar simply means common rules that people have to follow when using a language. Without those rules, each one will use the language on their own way, which may cause the chaos and difficulties in communication. Despite the importance of grammar, many students feel confused and tired of learning all English grammar rules. The main reason is that students haven’t been given effective learning method yet. Through the process of teaching grammar in many years at University of Transport Technology, the author has realized that the application of mind-map in teaching grammar brings many prosperous results. As we all know, the human brain is divided into two parts: the right brain is for creativity and visualization and the left brain is for logic. Students need to balance
using their left brain and right brain because they need to use their whole brain to think perfectly. Mind mapping combines both parts of the brain and stimulates them by engaging both the creative and logical aspects. Using the method of mind mapping is to use evocative images and colors to make a memorable impression, easy to synthesize related ideas together by topic and keywords.
