Abstract

Entering the 21st century, in the era of globalization, internationalization is a major factor in the development of higher education systems. In fact, there are many different views and definitions of the internationalization of higher education. Understanding the conceptual content and the reasons for internationalization of higher education is necessary for Vietnam to take the initiative and develop an action plan for the internationalization process so that it can respond more dynamically and effectively to the country's development. To clarify the research problem, the author used historical research, data collection, analysis, synthesis and logic research methods. The results of the research project show that, in the case of Vietnam, it can be understood that internationalization is the intentional process of integrating an international, intercultural, or global dimension into the purpose, functions, and delivery of post-secondary education. The reasons for the internationalization of higher education are four main reasons, including academic, economic, socio-cultural, and political diplomacy.
