Abstract

Currently, the river system in Vietnam is being seriously polluted at an alarming level. Contaminated water has caused serious effects on human health as well as biogeochemical cycle in river systems. In Vietnam, researches on the application of biological methods in the treatment of polluted water have been conducted. However, there are a few studies of water treatment capability combined with some aquatic species. Therefore, the aim of this research is to assess the ability of nitrogen uptake of different aquatic species in laboratory and propose methods of sustainable wastewater treatment. Our research were used different levels of nitrogen method, experimental design method and data processing method. The results of the obtained were as following: The possibility of nitrogen assimilation of stone snail, screw snail is inferior to water hyacinth, water spinach, algae; nitrogen assimilation efficiency is higher over time with the group of five species; NH4Cl contents affect on nitrogen assimilation ability of aquatic species.  The results of this study would be a scientific basic to improve the efficiency of treating water pollution.
