Abstract

Currently, the problem of mercury in the ambient air is being concerned on a global scale. Because mercury is highly toxic, it can exist very long time in the atmosphere, and therefore, is easily dispersed very far from emission sources. However, the monitoring of mercury in the ambient air in developing countries, including Vietnam, is still very limited because of its low concentration in the air, so it requires precision measurement techniques, leading to large implementation costs.

This paper deals with the forms of airborne mercury and the monitoring methods being used in the world, which can be applied in Vietnam. Monitoring methods include direct measurement of mercury and mercury sampling.
