“TREATING PEOPLE AS THE ROOT OF THE COUNTRY” TRADITION OF VIETNAMESE NATION AND THE IDEOLOGY OF “PEOPLE ARE THE ROOT OF THE COUNTRY” IN LI-TRAN DYNASTY

Abstract

The term “People are the root of the country” was introduced into Vietnam along with the propagation of Confucianism. However, this idea is completely not the privilege of the Chinese people; it is also reflected in the sense of community of the Vietnamese. After its introduction, this ideology combined with traditional Vietnamese ideas to create a synergic power that helped Vietnamese feudal dynasties along with the people to fight with invasions and natural disasters. This research summaries the formation and development of the “sense of community” of Vietnamese and its similarities with the idea “People are the root of the country”, expressing itself through the ideal of many politicians in Li - Tran dynasty such as: Li Cong Uan, Tran Quoc Tuan, Li Thuong Kiet, etc. Whereby, confirming the great ideology values of Li Dynasty and Tran Dynasty to the history of Vietnam.
