Abstract

This study was conducted on 1,757 dogs examined and treated at the Veterinary Clinic, Can Tho University by using clinical and subclinical methods. Results from the questionnaire and clinical examination indicated that 115 dogs were suspeciously infected with Carré disease, accounted for 6.54%. From the result of the subclinical test, 42 dogs were determined to be infected with Carré virus by using the Rapid test CDV Ag kit (Gen Action, Vietnam); it accounted for 36.25% of 115 suspecious infected dogs, and 2.39% of the total of examined dogs. In particular, dogs <6 months of age had the highest infected rate (50.00%), and the lowest rate was in dogs from 6 months to 2 years old (16.67%); Non-vaccinated dogs had the highest infected rate (74.35%), followed by the one-time vaccinated dogs (26.31%), and the two-time vaccinated dogs (7.89%). The infected rate of Carré disease was not significantly different among breeds and gender (P>0.05). The most common clinical symptom was fever (100%); followed by green nose discharge, and conjunctivitis (85.71%); coughing, sneezing, and runny nose (78.57%); infected spots on the thin layer of skin (54.76%); keratosis of feet soles and nose skin (42.85%), black stinking-viscous stool (28.57%); and the least ones were neurological symptoms (21.42%).
