SPECIES COMPOSITION OF AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES FROM NGOC THANH MOUNTAIN FOREST, PHUC YEN CITY, VINH PHUC PROVINCE

Abstract

Many natural forests still exist in the Ngoc Thanh mountainous area in ​​Phuc Yen city, Vinh Phuc province. Human activities have been affecting the environment and causing ecological imbalances. Besides, these activities also cause habitat loss for some species, including amphibians and reptiles. Assessing the current status of species composition, we conducted a field survey in this area from March to July 2018. We collected 208 specimens of 64 species of amphibians and reptiles belonging to 53 genera, 25 families, and five orders. Classification results had recorded the Squamata is the most diverse order with 13 families, 26 genera and 33 species; the Colubridae is the most varied family with six genera and nine species; the most diverse genus is Sylvirana with five species.There were 15 species identified in Vietnam’s Red Data Book (2007); 7 species are listed in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (2020); 8 species are listed in the Decree No. 06/2019/ND-CP dated January 22, 2019, of the Government.
