Abstract

Dendrocalamus brandisii (Munro) Kurz is a species of bamboo that has great economic value. This species can be effectively propagated by stem extraction method. Research and experiment on different types of growth stimulants IBA, IAA and NAA at concentrations of 500 ppm, 1500 ppm and 2000 ppm in spring season show that IBA 1500 ppm is the best selected growth stimulant while at the same time, compare them with stump extract in different seasons. As a result, the use of IBA biotrophic substances in spring season was better than in autumn season. Using IBA (1500 ppm) in spring season gave the highest results, including: the survival rate after 28 days reached 97.8%, the number of shoots/ cuttings was 3.61 buds, the number of roots/ stump was 20 roots, root length was 6.9 cm and survival rate after cuttings at the nursery was 92%. The study also showed that using a mixture of potting medium with ingredients of 68% of topsoil soil + 2% NPK + 30% chopped straw resulted in the highest average number of roots/ stump as 6.4 roots and root length as 4.5cm. This result contributes to the completion of the asexual propagation for Dendrocalamus brandisii (Munro) Kurz to meet the breeding needs for this species in Vietnam.
