Abstract

This study contributed data on morphological variation in Glossogobius giuris. A total of 1,291 individuals were collected from four locations including Cai Rang (Can Tho), Long Phu (Soc Trang), Hoa Binh (Bac Lieu) and Dam Doi (Ca Mau). Fish samples were collected using gill nets for 12 months of the year 2020. The data analysis results showed that the weight (W) of this species varied with sites, seasons and genders, but fish total length (TL) changed with genders. Interaction of season ´ site regulated the variation of W and TL. Other morphometric parameters such as body height (BD), head length (HL), eye distance (ED), eye diameter (DE) also varied with sites, seasons and genders. Besides, meristic parameters such as HL/TL, BD/TL, ED/HL and DE/HL varied with genders, season, sites, genders ´ sites and seasons ´ sites, but not genders ´ seasons. These findings were helpful in fish identifying and ecological adaptation understanding in the Mekong Delta.
