Abstract

This report represents the result of reseach to design and operate a bin model using Perionyx Excavatus to decompose domestic organic waste. The components of the model include: (1). The bin cover: made by a HDPE tank with V = 200 L, DxH= (40x80) cm; has slots around to plant Sauropus androgynus; (2). Core bin: made by PVC pipe, DxH=(20x80)cm, drilled many holds around with d=1cm and had a lid; (3). A harvest vermicash door: made by PVC pipe, D= 14 cm, 40 cm length; (4). A base: made by still Lx B x H = (40  x 20)cm. The space between the core bin and the bin cover is filled with soil. The model had Operated from 1/9/2019 to 20/10/2019. The model had installed at a household in Group 2 Mo Che ward Song Cong city Thai Nguyen province. The results showed that, after 50 days operating, the model was filled up. Total of domestic organic waste was 23.43 kg, average of 0.49±0.18 kg/day. The efficiency of converting organic waste into vermicash was 62.01%. Products obtained include: vermicash (1.6 kg), biomass of Perionyx Excavatus (80 g) and Sauropus Androgynus (0.5 kg). The model didn’t generate odors, does not see harmful insects such as mice, cockroaches, flies…
