Abstract

Checkd am is a common type of irrigation works in the Northern Mountainous Area (MNPB) – where debris flows often occur, and in recent years have witnessed debris flows that cause enormous damage to people and property. The check dams built in this area have mostly been damaged or even destroyed due to the impact of debris flow, causing difficulties for people's daily life and production. The article evaluates the current status of the dams due to debris flow effects, and analyzes the drawback of current standards being applied to dam design
