Abstract

In recent years, coastal erosion in our country has been occurring vigorously, leaving behind significant and devastating consequences, especially on the Central coast of Vietnam. Coastal areas are susceptible to damage due to various factors, including climate change, tidal surges, extreme weather events such as storms and floods, and human activities such as land reclamation and infrastructure construction. Therefore, understanding the dynamics of coastal areas is essential for the sustainable management of coastal ecosystems. Earth observation data, such as multi-temporal satellite imagery, is a crucial resource for assessing changes in coastal shorelines. In this study, we utilised a series of optical satellite images (Sentinel-2 and Landsat) in conjunction with the Google Earth Engine (GEE) cloud computing platform to monitor and automatically extract coastal shorelines. Subsequently, we used the DSAS tool to calculate and analyse the shoreline evolution in the Cua Tung area, Quang Tri province, from 2010 to 2021
