Abstract

Cai Lon - Cai Be irrigation structure system located in the west of the Mekong Delta has been built, completed and put into operation, is considered one of the largest culverts in Vietnam. This paper presents the results of assessing the current status of water quality in the Cai Lon-Cai Be irrigation structure system, through the monitoring and analysis of physical, chemical, microbiological criteria and the use of the Water Quality Index (WQI). The WQI results showed that the water quality in the area is showing signs of organic pollution (BOD5, COD), nutritional pollution (ammonium, nitrite) and microbiological polution due to the influence of the discharge of domestic, industrial and agricultural production in the region, especially in Tac Cau fish area, Chau Thanh district and Xang Giong Rieng canal. From the analysis results, find out the main causes of water pollution in the Cai Lon-Cai Be irrigation structure system such as: discharge from domestic sources and seafood processing factories in the study area. The article also proposes a number of solutions to reduce pollution. It is necessary to strengthen rural environmental sanitation for markets, households and household livestock areas, control natural sources of waste (industrial parks, residential areas,…) into canals
