Abstract

Bung Binh Thien Lake (Bung) is one of the natural freshwater lakes in An Giang province, besides maintaining the freshwater ecosystem and controlling floods, the lake also provides a livelihood for residents through activities including tourism, entertainment and aquaculture. However, Bung water quality has recently declined and affected people's activities in this area. Therefore, to help local agencies in the environmental management field have an overall view of the current water quality status and be able to identify typical polluted areas in the lake. The study has assessed the current state of water quality in the Bung area through two water quality parameters (DO and BOD5 ) using the modeling method. Application of the Delft3D (including Delft3D-FLOW and DELWAQ models) to simulate water quality in the flood season in 2022 and the dry season in 2023. Simulation results of the flow velocity at the Bung were low, the velocity gradually decreased to zero towards the end of the Bung, the water at this location is very calm. The DELWAQ model simulated the spread of pollution from the Binh Di River, which depends greatly on the discharge and flow velocity. The results showed the model is appropriate for simulating the DO concentration in freshwater at Bung. The model has not given good results in simulating the BOD5 concentration as the DO simulation. This is a prerequisite study for further research on the simulation of water quality and ecological environment.
