Abstract

In recent years, the tendency of migration from rural to urban areas has been increasing significantly. It leads the increasing number of migrant women to cities who are freelancers. They are facing difficulties in different aspects. One of the serious social issues which they are facing is gender-based violence. This article focuses on analyzing gender - based violence, including domestic violence faced by migrant women who are as scrap collectors and street vendors through qualitative design. A total of 10 in-depth - interviews with migrant women were conducted in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2017. The findings showed that participants experienced gender- based violence at different levels: gender- based violence in public areas, in their family, or both at public areas and in their family. Therefore, the article shows suggestions and recommendations which prevent migrant women from gender- based violence.
