Abstract

The paper is a result of the study “Analysis of the current situation and assessment
of women’s needs for safe labor migration in Nghe An, Lao Cai and Thanh Hoa” under the
project “Strengthening safe migration for women” in the program “Safe and equal migration:
creating opportunities for women to migrate in ASEAN” implemented by the Vietnam
Women’s Union with the support of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and
the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). The content of the article is the experience
of difficulties and risks in the work of migrant workers in these 3 provinces. Most of them
do not have access to complete information about the migration process, lack of language
preparation and basic information about the law and culture of the receiving country. Even
they are almost not equipped with skills to prevent and respond to situations of violence and
sexual abuse during the labor process, especially informal migrant women. Therefore, building
and operating a network to support migrant workers is extremely necessary today
