Environmental-Related Social conflicts in Quang Ngai province in the context of industrialization
Abstract
The article analyzes the social conflicts related to the environment in Quang Ngai province in the context of industrialization. Data were collected through sociological survey conducted in 2024 with 600 households in Binh Son, Quang Ngai City, and Duc Pho (Quang Ngai province), along with in-depth interviews with people and local officials. The study present findings on environmental-related social conflicts arising from industrial development, resettlement, and urban planning in Quang Ngai province. Environment problems such as dust, odor, air pollution, waste treatment, industrial waste, and household waste have triggered long-standing conflicts, causing insecurity and disruption to people's lives. Therefore, this article assesses the conflict causes, and solutions for addressing conflicts and proposes some suggestions to prevent social conflicts in the environment. This study also contributes new findings on social actors in identifying and resolving environmental conflicts.
