Analysis of basic social services of multidimensional poverty households in Quang Ngai province
Abstract
The analysis of secondary data from the Department of Labor, Invalids and
Social Affairs of Quang Ngai province shows that, when moving from the traditional poor
household approach (income/expenditure) to the multidimensional poverty approach
(health, education, quality of life), the proportion of poverty households in Quang Ngai
province has changed towards an increasing trend. Analysis of lack of basic social services
shows that, by 2020, the most common shortfall for poverty households in Quang Ngai
province is hygienic toilets, water sources for domestic use and use of telecommunications
services. Housing issues, especially housing area and quality, are also deprivation indicators,
accounting for a high proportion of the total number of poor households (33.53% and 35.09%
respectively). With efforts in universalizing education that have brought poor households
better educational services, only 1,61% of poor households have children of school age who
cannot go to school. From the analysis of the lack of basic social services for poor households
in Quang Ngai province, it shows that local poverty reduction programs need to focus on
different poor groups, should have appropriate policy design different subjects
