Parallel sentences at Communal houses in Quang Nam
Abstract
In Quang Nam, most Communal houses has been decorated with parallel
sentences romanised Han Chinese and painted or inlaid with mosaics on walls, both sides of
altars of gods/goddesses or ancestors, pillars of porches, standing screen, a gate of a temple/
pagoda with three entrances, or carved on a wooden picture hanging in the middle of an
altar. The study is aimed to help readers understand profoundly about cultural values of a
traditional religious institution, of villages in particular, and of a region. Based on examining
parallel sentences in most Communal houses in Quang Nam, the article generalizes about
parallel sentences at Communal houses in Quang Nam as a primary feature, which contributes
to widening readers’ knowledge of Vietnamese traditional culure.
