Visual beauty in Ho Xuan Huong’s Nom poetry
Abstract
Ho Xuan Huong’s Nom poetry is considered one of the few pinnacles of the poetry representing Tang-style poetry written in Nom in Vietnamese medieval literature. The impression of images and the interesting, unique “intertextuality” are the sources of inspiration that bring Ho Xuan Huong’s poetry from the realm of literature to the visual arts of forms such as painting, acting and film. Up to now, her poetry “causes difficulties” for every translator who wants to convey her works’ content in another language. The relationship between poetry and visual arts, utilizing interdisciplinary methods such as literature - culture, analysis, synthesis, comparison, and statistics, the article is aimed to seek the answer to the unique beauty of artistic images in Ho Xuan Huong’s Nom poetry.
