The influence of Confucianism in Nguyen Dinh Chieu's creative works

Abstract

Nguyen Dinh Chieu is a great poet and writer of the nation, having made significant contributions to the Vietnamese literary canon. His creative career is divided into two phases: before and after the French colonial invasion. In the earlier phase, the content of his poetry was aimed at promoting moral principles. In the later phase, his poetry became a prominent example of patriotic poetry against the French. The core ideology in his works, “to uphold virtue and fight against evil”, is central to his creative philosophy throughout his career. Within the scope of the article, using typical statistical and linguistic analysis methods, we aim to clarify the influence of Confucianism on the content of Nguyen Dinh Chieu's compositions, specifically the concept of loyalty - filial piety and humanity.
