Conditions for the emergence of the ideology and Duy Tan movement in Quang Nam province in the early 20th century

Abstract

In the early twentieth century, Vietnam’s movement for national salvation appeared a new thought that is the reform ideology, prominently represented by Phan Chau Trinh, who together with his two comrades, Tran Quy Cap and Huynh Thuc Khang, created the Quang Nam Renovation Trio. They realized it as a model and developed into a large-scale renovation movement throughout Quang Nam province, which had a great influence on the renovation movement across the country. The article aims to explore why Quang Nam - rather than any other locality - is the starting place, both personally initiating ideas to creating the first model of innovation.
