The Appointment of Mandarins through Examinations under the Nguyễn Dynasty (1802–1885)
Abstract
This article focuses on clarifying the appointment of mandarins selected through state-organized examinations during the Nguyễn Dynasty. The historical method is employed to comprehensively reconstruct the past context of the issue. Additionally, the logical method is used to provide a thorough and objective analysis of the subject under investigation. The primary sources utilized in this study are official historical records compiled during the Nguyễn Dynasty. In addition, the authors draw upon previous research findings by other scholars to further elucidate the topic. Accordingly, the article aims to shed light on the process of mandarin recruitment through examinations such as the Hương (Regional Examination), Hội (National Examination), and Đình (Court Examination) under the Nguyễn Dynasty.
