Evaluating the livelihood vulnerability of people in Tuy Phong district, Binh Thuan province in the context of climate change
Abstract
Extreme weather and climate change, especially droughts and unusually high temperatures, are increasingly affecting the South Central provinces in general and BinhThuan province in particular in recent years. This study has been implemented to identify adverse impacts of these phenomena on people’s livelihoods in Tuy Phong district, BinhThuan province by calculating the livelihood vulnerability index (LVI-IPCC) in 2 communes named Vinh Hao and Phong Phu. Results show that the LVI-IPCC index of the study area is quite high, indicating the corresponding level of people’s livelihood vulnerability. These indicators also provide useful information to regulatory agencies in policymaking and action plans to cope with climate change, to adapt to extreme weather events in the area, ensuring sustainable livelihoods for local people.
