Western health system in Nghe An under the French colonial period
Abstract
Since the end of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century, French colonialists have gradually built up the Western medical system in Nghe An along with their colonial rule. At that period, the system was quite diverse in terms of ownership and modes of operation: they could be permanent medical facilities or mobile ones, located in residential areas or construction sites. Number of health facilities set up within the framework of medical relief programs really brought positive supports to the local people in Nghe An such as the vaccination against epidemic, sanitation and birth in advanced science. However, the truth is that the primary and essential purpose of these facilities establishment is for the French colonial rule and exploitation here.
