General education in Da Nang under the Republic of Vietnam (1954 – 1975)

Abstract

The Western education has been introduced to Da Nang since the French invasion; in the Republic of Viet Nam, that type of education had still been maintained and influenced by the US’s education system and experience - an advanced education in the world. This article focuses on clarifying the school system, the situation of students, teachers, facilities, and teaching methods, as well as analysing strengths and weaknesses/limitations of the general education in Da Nang under the jurisdiction of the Republic of Vietnam’s government, thereby contributing to filling gaps in acknowledging Viet Nam‘s educational history.
