Determinants of fishermen’s income in Son Tra district, Da Nang city
Abstract
Using an econometric model, the article analyzes determinants of fishing
households’ income in Son Tra district, Da Nang city. Research data was collected from 120
fishing households in 04 wards namely Nai Hien Dong, Tho Quang, Man Thai, An Hai Bac.
The estimated results show that the following factors have a significant influence on fishing
households’ income in Son Tra district: Number of laborers and fishermen in a household,
number of means of fishing (boats) that a household owns, capacity of boats, fishing output,
fishing technology, and related policies. In contrast, the determinants of fishermen’s capacity,
experience, love of the profession, means of multi-vocational activities and aquatic resources
do not have a remarkable effect on households’ income. The results help the authors suggest
policy implications for raising fishing households’ incomes in Son Tra district in the coming
time, focusing on improving their technology skills, techniques and quality of fishing means.
