Utilizing local knowledge of Thai people in tourism development in the West of Nghe An

Abstract

Local knowledge is an important element that makes up the culture of
an ethnic group. In specific natural and social conditions, each ethnic group holds its own
treasures of knowledge. In the West of Nghe An, Thai people have possessed a diverse local
knowledge of folklore, folk medicine, cuisine, cultivation, animal husbandry, traditional
crafts, and other fields that play a critical role in the community’s soci-economic and cultural
development. This article focuses on identifying basic local knowledge of the Thai people in
the West of Nghe An and proposes solutions to utilizing their knowledge effectively in tourism
development.
