Mother Goddess worship in Da Nang

Abstract

Mother Goddess worship that has been practiced for a long time ago in
Vietnam has formed the beliefs in Three Palaces, including Thiên Phủ (Heaven), Nhạc Phủ
(Forest), Thoải Phủ (Water), and the Four Palaces namely the mentioned Three Palaces and
Địa Phủ (Earth). The Mother Goddess worshipping practice is diverse, including its rituals and
festival. This article only mentions one of them that is the Mother Goddess worship in Da
Nang. Based on surveys of typical temples in Da Nang, the article illustrates that local people
strongly believe in the goddess as their Mother Goddness of four regions. Since the Mother
Goddess temple in Da Nang has not been the official Mother Goddness beliefs (not yet one
of Three Palaces or Four Palaces), it has worshiped several Goddesses (a small quantity) and
been decorated simply.
