UNDERSTANDING THE PHENOMENON OF LIE FROM A LANGUAGECULTURE PERSPECTIVE

Abstract

Telling lie has always been considered unethical and people are advised not
to do so. However, in certain situations, a lie is absolutely necessary. This article first studies
the concept of lies, then analyzes the characteristics and purposes of lies to show how to
classify lies as well as offer some noteworthy points when telling lie. The research results
have contributed to proving that telling lie is a cultural, social and linguistic phenomenon
with unique and indispensable values. This phenomenon will still exist and develop in parallel
with the development of human society.
