NGUYEN QUANG LIEM: SEMICONDUCTOR QUANTUM DOTS AND PROMISING APPLICATIONS.
Abstract
This paper reviews the study results on several kinds of semiconductor quantum dots such as CdSe, CdTe, InP, GaN, CuO, CuS, CuSe, and their core/shell structures with the shell materials as CdS, ZnS or TiO2. The paper content is composed of: (i) overview about type-I and type-II quantum dots; (ii) the synthesis technology of nanomaterials; (iii) the study of morphology and structure; (iv) the optical properties; and (v) examples on the promising applications of type-I quantum dots as the highly luminescent nanomaterials emitting in the 440 - 800 nm range that could be used for fabrication of fluorescent bio-medical-agricultural sensors, and the type-II ones for photocatalysis application in enviromental depollution technologies. Based on the achieved results, it is seen that Vietnamese scientists have paid attention to nanoscience and nanotechnology; in some fields/subjects, our scientists have reached the high levels which are quite possible to share/collaborate with colleagues in the world advanced labs. More importantly, we have do dertermined several subjects which are very promissing to approach real applications of such advanced nanomaterials, namely semiconductor quantum dots, if support is enough.
