Abstract

This paper deals with the integration of landscape planning adapting to climate change based on landscape theory and legal basis related to climate change adaptation in Vietnam. For the case study of Cai Rong coastal area in Van Don economic zone, we have identified: (i) the northern low hill landscape: planned

areas are associated with establishing models of agro-forestry garden, and urban landscape and environmental rehabilitation; (ii) the central urban landscape: planned areas are associated with improving urban quality, developing models of high quality cropping and livestock farming at household scale, developing new modern urban areas with infrastructures preventing natural disasters and adapting

to climate change; and (iii) the sea - islands along Bai Tu Long bay landscape: planned areas are associated with developing port trading, new urban and infrastructure, waterway, and aquaculture models adapting to climate change. The study results show that integrated landscape planning is a rational approach for reducing damages caused by climate change, sea level rise and natural disasters to different landscapes in coastal areas.
