RESEARCH OF USING CO2 EMISSIONS FROM TUYNEL BRICK FACTORIES FOR PILOT PRODUCTION OF NUTRITIOUS SPIRULINA PLATENSIS.
Abstract
In the mass production of Spirulina platensis - a Cyanobacterium of high nutritive value, carbon source is very important because carbon makes up 45% of dry biomass. CO2 is a main greenhouse gas and contributes about 60% to increasing the atmospheric temperature. Coal - burning emits the greatest part of CO2, followed by oil- and gas-burning. Therefore, the utilization of CO2 captured from coal combustion is a very good sollution to the environmental protectionand also reduces costs for S. platensis production. In this study, the authors present some results of S. platensis culture at pilot scale (25 m2) using CO2 from the flue gas of the coal- burning process through the operation of the Treatment Modular System which is designed and manufactured based on using the adsorption-catalysis and atomization technology. The purified CO2 gas with the concentration of ~1.2 % has been stored in special equipment for supplying into the culture pond. Several parameters related to the S. platensis culture technology like OD, pH and quality of the S. platensis biomass have also been presented in this study.
