Developing speaking and listening skills in 10th grade students through discussions on social issues

Abstract

Speaking and listening are crucial skill sets that play an important role in the development of language competencies for students in general education. The discussion format on social issues in the 10th grade Literature subject significantly contributes to training students' speaking, listening, and interactive speaking and listening skills. This paper presents several measures that on one hand, assist students in practicing skills for analyzing topics, generating ideas, and structuring their thoughts, based on cultural principles and standards; on the other hand, it influences the selection of teaching methods and techniques and the design of evaluation tools by teachers.
