Abstract
Objective: The study was done to describe the clinical and subclinical features of epilepsy in children at Haiphong Children’s Hospital from 2019 to 2022. Subjects and Method: Subjects included 202 patients with epilepsy diagnosed by the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE). The method was a series case report. Results: Epilepsy was common in boys (boys/girls ratio was 1.62/1), mainly in children from 5 to less than 10 years old and average age was 5.22 ± 3.93 years old. Generalized seizures were more common than partial seizures (50.5% and 48%, respectively). In the generalized epilepsy, motor-onset crisis was in the highest rate 95%, of which myotonic crisis presented 62.8%, all absents were typical crisis. In the partial group, cognitive disorder accounted for 92.8%, in which partial motor onset was 94.85%, partial onset with progressive and bilateral myoclonic crisis was 32.1% Electroencephalography showed typical epileptic waves in 35.1% of patients and 22.8% of cases had abnormal diagnosis. Thirty-four patients had MRI (16.8 %), 6 cases had abnormal MRI. Conclusions: Epilepsy was common in children from 5 to 10 years old, displayed by generalized and partial seizure. The epileptic diagnosis was based on Electroencephalography but the detection of its causes must be based on imaging diagnosis particularly MRI.
