Survey of constitutional types of traditional medicine on students at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2022 – 2023
Abstract
Objective: Describe some characteristics of Traditional Medicine physical forms on students of Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2022-2023
Research methods and subjects: A cross-sectional descriptive research design was conducted on a total of 281 full-time students at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy
Results: Average age in the study: 21.48 ±2.21 (years old), Male/Female ratio = 3.4:1. The research participation rate mainly focused on 1st-year students accounting for 27% (n=76) and 6th-year students accounting for 25.6% (n=72). Normal BMI accounts for the highest proportion (60.5%). Sleep quality is evaluated according to the PSQI scale (average PSQI score is 5.31±2.96), students with good sleep quality have the highest rate of 56%. Among subjects participating in physical research, the highest rate was Peaceful (37%, n=104), second were Qi Deficiency and Qi depression (14.6%), Yang deficiency (8.7%), Congestion (9.6%), Yin deficiency (5.7%), Blood Stasis (4.6%), Humidity (2.1%), the lowest is Phlegm dampness (1.8%). Between gender and physical types, both men and women have the highest physical fitness rate in Peaceful (Male 46.9%, Female 34.1%), and Male has the lowest physical fitness rate. Blood Stasis (1.6%), in Women it is Phlegmon (0.9%). Between BMI and physical types, students with normal BMI (BMI 18.5-22.9), skinny (BMI<18.5), or overweight (BMI 23 - 24.9) have different physical conditions. The highest rates are all in Peaceful (36.5%; 35.4%; 47.1%, respectively). Regarding sleep quality and physical fitness, students with good sleep quality, the highest percentage of physical fitness is Peaceful (47.9%). Students with poor sleep quality and physical health account for a high proportion in Peaceful, Qi Deficiency, and Qi Uat (22%; 22%; 18.6%, respectively).
