Reality and some factors related to chronic venous insufficiency of lower extremities among worker of Halong canned food joint stock corporation
Abstract
ABSTRACT: Aim: Describe the reality and some factor related to chronic venous insufficiency of lower extremities (CVI) among seafood processing workers in Hai Phong. Subjects and methods: 383 workers at Ha Long canned seafood processing company with > 2 years working experience, not diagnosed with CVI before employment. The study used a cross-sectional descriptive epidemiological method with analysis through venous ultrasound, directly interview research subjects about their age, working experience, working posture, and pregnancy in women. Results: The prevalence of chronic venous insufficiency of lower extremities (CVI) was 51,4%. Some factors related to CVI: female (OR: 3.26; 95%CI: 2.06-5.17); age ≥ 40 years (OR: 2.15; 95%CI: 1.33-3.47); overweight, obesity (OR: 1.23; 95%CI: 1.02-2.41); working experience > 10 years (OR: 3.40; 95%CI: 2.20-5.26); standing position at work, (OR: 2.31; 95%CI: 1.34-3.97); sitting position at work, (OR: 2.42; 95%CI: 1.14-5.11); having 2 children (OR: 1.80; 95%CI: 1.05 – 2.91); giving birth ≥ 3 children (OR: 4.15; 95% CI: 1.92 – 5.34). Conclusion: CVI is a public health issue for seafood processing workers. To prevent CVI, seafood processing workers need to adjust their lifestyle, control their weight, exercise regularly, change their postures during work and exercise between working hours.
