Situation of palliative care activities for cancer patients at Viet Tiep Hospital in 2024

Abstract

A study on palliative care activities for patients among 250 pairs of patients/primary caregivers for cancer patients at Viet Tiep Hospital yielded the following results: 100% of the patients were prescribed treatment with painkillers. The response rate to pain relief treatment reached 99.6%. In terms of psychological support, 100% of the patients received the information about the disease, and the treatment process from medical staff and could decide on their own treatment methods.100% of the patients were encouraged and comforted by doctors and nurses throughout the treatment process. In terms of psychological and mental care activities, 95% of the patients were satisfied and very satisfied with the doctors’ psychological and mental care; 60.8% of the patients were satisfied with the nurses’ psychological and mental care. 10.0% of the caregivers said they received a lot of support and had all the necessary support to take care of the patients. Most of the caregivers for the cancer patients received sympathy, sharing and encouragement from the medical staff (96.8%) and felt satisfied with the psychological and mental care activities (97.6%).
