Clinical and paraclinical features and results of treatment of upper urine stones with flexible tube at Hai Phong University of Medical Hospital

Abstract

Objective: Describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics and the effectiveness of treating upper 1/3 ureteral stones by retrograde endoscopic lithotripsy with flexible tubes at Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from September 2023 to May 2024. Subjects and methods: A retrospective and prospective study of 34 patients with upper 1/3 ureteral stones by endoscopic lithotripsy with flexible tubes at the Department of General Surgery - Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital from September 2023 to May 2024. Results: The disease occurs more in men than in women. The average age is 52.3 ± 6.1 years old. The average stone size is 12.2 ± 1.3 mm. The rate of successful lithotripsy and stone clearance is 100%. The average lithotripsy time is 58.7 ± 11.6 minutes. Rare complications after lithotripsy: 2/34 (5.9%). The average hospital stay after lithotripsy was 4.1 ± 0.7 days. Conclusion: Treatment of upper third ureteral stones by retrograde endoscopy with a flexible tube, combined with 90w Holmium Laser is a modern and minimally invasive method, limiting complications, high efficiency and short hospital-stay.
