Periodontal disease in elderly patients visiting Haiphong Medical University Hospital

Abstract

Objectives: Describe the periodontal status and treatment needs in the elderly patient visiting the Department of Dentistry, Hai Phong Medical University Hospital. And the factors affecting the periodontal status and treatment needs of periodontal disease in this group of patients. Subjects and research methods: 70 patients from 60 to 85 years old were surveyed about periodontal disease status: CPI, OHI-S, CPITN, and interviewed about factors: education level, smoking and diabetes. Research method: cross-sectional description study. Research results: The rate of people with periodontal disease is high, accounting for 87.14%, of which: CPI1 is 27.1%, CPI2 is 27.1%, CPI3 is 22.9%, CPI4 is 10%. The rate of people who need treatment for VSRM guidance and scaling is the highest, accounting for 50%. There are 12.9% of people who do not need treatment. Education level below high school increases the risk of periodontal disease compared to the group with high school education level or higher. Diabetes increases the risk of periodontal disease. There is no association between smoking status and periodontal disease.
