Orthodontic rereatment in pregnant patients– A case report
Abstract
Orthodontic retreatment was performed on a 27-year-old pregnant female patient without pretreatment radiographs. The patient was diagnosed with a prognathism due to a receding chin and Bolton disproportion between the two jaws. To align the crowded teeth and create space, the two maxillary second premolars were extracted. Molar axis reconstruction was performed using straight wires, miniscrews and the multi-loop wire technique (MOAW). After treatment, facial aesthetics improved significantly, with the nose, lips and chin in a straight line. Class I occlusion was achieved in both molars and canines. After one year of follow-up, no recurrence of the gap was noted and the occlusion remained stable. This case demonstrates that, in situations where pre-treatment radiographs are not available, diagnosis and treatment can still be performed effectively in moderately complex cases.
