Employment status and associated factors among regular-program graduates of Haiphong University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2023
Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to describe the employment status and identify factors associated with employment among regular undergraduate alumni of Hai Phong University of Medicine and Pharmacy who graduated in 2023.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted on 647 alumni across all health-related undergraduate programs. Results: Of all respondents, 73.1% were female. 86.7% graduated with a “Good” classification, 7.1% with “Average,” and 6.2% with “Excellent”. General Medicine had the most graduates (35.4%), while Preventive Medicine had the fewest (4.6%). Employment rate was 70.9%; 21.2% pursued further study; and 7.9% were unemployed. Pharmacy showed the highest employment rate (91.9%), while further study was most common among General Medicine (34.1%) and Medical Laboratory Technology (30.8%). Within six months, 89.4% found jobs in their trained field—highest in Pharmacy (97.8%), lowest in Preventive Medicine (73.3%). Graduates of General and Traditional Medicine mainly worked in the public sector, while other disciplines favored private employment. About 82.4% worked in the Red River Delta, mostly in Hai Phong (32.2%) and Hanoi (18.5%). Factors significantly associated with employment status included gender, academic performance, proficiency in foreign languages and computer skills, and participation in extracurricular activities. Among these, graduation classification and extracurricular engagement had the strongest influence.
