Postoperative outcomes of the first-stage reconstruction of microtia using autologous cartilage

Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of first-stage ear reconstruction using autologous cartilage framework. Subjects and Methods: This study included 31 patients diagnosed with microtia who underwent auricular reconstruction using autologous costal cartilage at the Department of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery, Bach Mai Hospital, from June 2021 to September 2024. Results: After more than 1 months, donor site healing was rated as good to excellent in 100% of cases. In the reconstructed ear, 95% of anatomical details achieved a satisfactory or higher level. Conclusion: Auricular reconstruction using autologous cartilage framework is an effective option in the treatment of microtia.
