Adverse childhood experiences among people who had psychiatric disorder due to methamphetamine in Hai Phong psychiatric hospital in 2022
Abstract
Childhood adverse experiences can be related to many aspects of adult life including substance use problems. We conducted this study with 2 objectives: (1) Describe adverse childhood experiences in psychotic patients due to use of methamphetamine treated at Hai Phong Psychiatric Hospital in 2022 and (2) Describe some of the factors associated with these adverse childhood experiences. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 54 patients who met criteria for diagnosis of mental and behavioral disorders due to methamphetamine use (according to ICD10). Subjects were collected on demographic and clinic symptoms. Each patient was interviewed about adverse childhood experiences using a 10-question questionnaire. The results show that the average age is 33.5± 7.23, most of the patients have used drugs from 2-5 years; 66.67% of patients experienced at least one type of ACEs, the proportion of patients who were negatively affected from adverse childhood experiences was 55.56%. 44.44% have family members with alcohol problems; 25.93% of the subjects lived with the prisoner; 24.07% have family members experiencing mental disorders and suicide; ACEs increase the risk of psychosis and early use of methamphetamine.
