The status of social anxiety disorder and related factors among high school students in Ninh Binh Province in 2024
Abstract
A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 374 grade 11 and grade 12 students at Vu Duy Thanh High School, Yen Khanh District, Ninh Binh Province, during the 2023-2024 academic year. The study aimed to describe factors associated with social anxiety disorder (SAD) in the target population. The data were collected by questionnaire survey, using the LSAS scale to identify people with SAD. The results showed that the prevalence of SAD in study subjects was 57.0%, with 54.7% of affected students being female and 51.4% in grade 11. Binary logistic regression analysis identified five significantly significant factors associated with SAD (p < 0.05) including: average academic scores between 6.5 and 7.5 (OR = 2.22; 95% CI: 1.25–3.93); Low levels of peer support (OR = 2.47; 95% CI: 1.06–5.73); No history of failing an important exam (OR = 0.30; 95% CI: 0.14–0.64); Social media use for 1–2 hours per day (OR = 0.31; 95% CI: 0.13–0.73); Frequent video game playing (OR = 2.41; 95% CI: 1.07–5.45). These findings underscore the necessity of early detection of students with SAD and highlight the importance of timely interventions and support from families and schools.
