Clinical, paraclinical features and treatment results of acute bronchitis with RSV at Hai Phong Children's Hospital in 2023
Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics, laboratory findings, and treatment outcomes of acute bronchiolitis associated with RSV infection in children under 2 years old at Hai Phong Children's Hospital in 2023. Methods: Descriptive study. A total of 227 patients with RSV-positive bronchiolitis were included. Results: The mean age of affected children was 10.57 ± 7.59 months, with a balanced sex ratio between males and females. The most common clinical symptoms included cough, tachypnea, moist rales, and wheezing. Laboratory findings revealed abnormal inflammatory markers in a small proportion of cases (neutrophilia in 28.63% and elevated CRP in 27%). However, all patients exhibited radiographic evidence of pneumonia on chest X-ray. Most children achieved complete recovery, with an average hospital stay of 8.45 ± 3.46 days, and no cases required referral to higher-level care. Conclusion: Bronchiolitis with RSV is a respiratory disease characterized by cough and tachypnea and has a high cure rate.
