The status of iron supplementation in pregnancy of pregnant women visiting Hai Phong Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2025
Abstract
The study aimed to describe the current status of iron supplementation among pregnant women visiting Hai Phong Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital in 2025. The research was designed as a cross-sectional descriptive study, using a convenient sampling method. The study population consisted of 174 pregnant women in the late stage of pregnancy (36–40 weeks), who were directly interviewed using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26.0 with descriptive statistics. The results showed that the compliance rate with iron supplementation during pregnancy was 93.1%. Among the participants, 74.1% began supplementation in the first trimester, 19.1% in the second trimester, only 6.2% before pregnancy, and 0.6% in the third trimester. Regarding the daily iron dosage, 40.1% of the pregnant women took the recommended dose (30–60 mg), 24.1% took less than the recommended amount, 2.5% took more than 60 mg, and 33.3% were unaware of the exact dosage. The study indicated a very high rate of adherence to iron supplementation among pregnant women at the provincial-level healthcare facility, reflecting the effectiveness of the reproductive healthcare system. However, enhanced communication regarding the appropriate timing and dosage of iron supplementation is still needed to improve the prevention of anemia during pregnancy.
